Today’s story is a bit of a grim one for me, but this is what came to mind looking at the lockers in the photo featured for the Friday Fictioneers challenge. Thanks go out to Rochelle for hosting and to Claire Fuller for the photo.
In the locker room, hanging behind the door of locker #6273, was the assault rifle. It was the only one that Johnny Dingo left behind. It was there just in case he needed it.
Wrapped up in loose fitting sweats, he made his way through the crowd at the track meet. Heading towards where the announcer stood, calling the runners for the next race, Johnny slowed as he approached.
Did he really want to do this? Yes. They needed a lesson. No more bullying. Those kids who teased him incessantly for the last 10 years would tease no more.

Have a great day! Be well… ^..^
If you walk the streets with a name like Johnny Dingo, you’ve got to expect some shit, haven’t you?
Good piece.
Thank you Mick!
A well told story, one that sadly happens too often…
Thank you!
You have vividly captured the feelings and emotions of a boy. We often forget but it’s true that bullying can lead to such an extent of revenge
It can. What has changed so much in the world that we have this extreme violence. When I was a kid, we did not have these problems.
If only this didn’t actually happen. Nicely told.
Thanks Ali!
Dear Barb,
It is a grim tale and one that keeps repeating itself. Well told.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle.
Ten years? It could still be just a “kid” but what if it’s a teacher? A chilling thought.
That is a chilling thought Alice!
You captured the tragic reality of bullying and its consequences in a world where access to guns with mass destruction capability is too easy and violence is seen as an acceptable way to make a statement. What has become of us? 😦
We live in a very sad world.
Yes, we do. I feel so powerless to do anything about it, too.
Me too.
It is sad that when we look at a picture our mind can take us to such tragedy. Well done. I’m sure you questioned writing it, but that’s when you know you should!
Thanks for supporting the topic. It is what came to mind when I saw the strange lockers and the one with the door open.
Others might criticize for choosing to write such a story, as you alluded to in your intro. But, unfortunately these are the times we live in. My only complaint is the choice of name. Johnny Dingo made it sound like a western. But then maybe the character’s name was the reason for the teasing and bullying.
Thank you for the comment Emilio. We do live in sad times, and bullying is a serious topic just as kids carrying guns. Whatever the reason for the teasing and bullying, it has become an extreme issue.
I ditto what PJ said. Sadly apropos to today’s news. Excellent story Barb!
Thank you Joy! Like that PJ and PJ agree. 😀
Hahaha!! That’s funny.
I thought so too! 😀
Not the usual “littleJohnny” school story and sadly to reflective of today’s society.
It is….Sad…
