After the Festival - Photo by DLovering

After the Festival – Photo by DLovering

It was early morning in the town of Mijas, Spain. The remains of the festival held the night before hung swaying in the gentle breeze that the rising sun kicked up.

The Festival del Corazón went off without a hitch. There had been dancing in the streets. Everyone dressed in a variety costumes. There were games for the young, and red wine for the adults. The main event was the piñata!

Swinging from the center of the square hung this year’s piñata. As the body was broken open, it became a feeding frenzy for the vampires in the square!

Locked In - Photo by Alastair Forbes

Locked In – Photo by Alastair Forbes

She ran blindly in the night. It didn’t matter which way she went. It was always behind her. Cold fingers reaching out to grab her. She hunkered down behind a headstone trying to catch her breath. Kneeling there, her fingers clutched at the earth, dirt collecting under her nails.

It seemed that she had been running for hours. She heard a branch snap behind her. Looking over her shoulder she could see nothing. But she heard it. A low rumbling snuffling sound. Her heart was racing. She started to run again.

On and on she went. Branches slapped at her face. They grabbed at her clothes never quite capturing her, although they tried. Her foot hit a slick spot and she pitched forward into the mud. Sliding, it was cold and wet.

When she came to a stop she realized that she was in front of the gate. Freedom was in front of her. Grabbing the cold metal bars she pulled herself up. Her fingers curled around the icy metal as she yanked incessantly….but the gate did not budge. Then she noticed the lock. It was too late. Bony fingers wrapped around her neck, pulling her back. She screamed.

Community is the subject of this week’s photo challenge. Now community can be two different things. It can be a a social unit that shares common values or interests, or it can be a unit of organisms that just live together interactively…So where should we go with this? Let’s just see where the wind takes me on this quest to capture community with photographs!

A community of geese…

All That Remained of Bobby Joe - Copyright Adam Ickes

All That Remained of Bobby Joe – Copyright Adam Ickes

It all happened so quickly we really did not have time to react. Now we all stood there staring at a pair shoes in disbelief. That was all that remained of Bobby Joe. Bobby Joe left us, laughing, because this was to be his “Big Fish” story!

We all went fishing from the dock at Pillar Point. Bobby Joe’s reel started spinning like crazy. Something big had his line and was heading furiously out to sea. Bobby hooted that he finally hooked his “big one.”

Little did we know it would take him with it leaving only his shoes behind!

After reading the cards for this one particular client, Madame Sophia found herself disturbed by what she had read. So was her client.

Then she brought out her runes and had the client toss these onto the table. The results were just as disturbing.

Next she brought out a cup of tea for her client. She had the client drink down the tea. When the client finished the tea, she grabbed the cup gazing at the remaining tea leaves. She shook her head mumbling to herself. The results were not good.

She knew now what she had to do. She had to go for the big guns. She brought out her crystal ball. Gently setting it on the table, she ran her hands over it three times. Instead of clouding up, a pink light began to pulsate from the center.

All of a sudden, the pulsing center exploded sending out beams of light to the outer edges of the crystal ball. It had never done that before. With eyes wide open she turned to her client. His eyes glowed red, horns sprouting from his forehead, face grinning devilishly.

Scared out of her wits, she gave up the craft of divination!

All is Quiet! - Photo Copyright by Ted Strutz

All is Quiet! – Photo Copyright by Ted Strutz

The last of the commuters departed from the ferry. The summer sun was setting and Jake made one more sweep of the inside deck to ensure that the decks were clear.

All looked good. He had a table that was reserved just for him. As they were still running, the number of folks that traveled “after hours” would be few. This was the time that Jake would work on his jigsaw puzzle.

“All is quiet,” came over the loudspeaker system.

Jake looked at the table. He sighed, happy that he could now sit down to work on his puzzle!
