Today, the start of a work week, is the day that I devote to hosting the Mondays Finish the Story challenge. In the challenge, I ask that you write a story using between 100-150 words and that you use the opening line and the photo prompt to create your story. The opening line of the challenge is in bold and italics. Here is my story.
“The team employed the use of Nightshade to get the information they wanted from their captive.” He was the last of the Knights Templar. They wanted him to reveal the location of the Arc of the Covenant.
Many believed that the Arc is located inside the money pit on Oak Island. The team was unsuccessful at finding it there.
They held the prisoner’s nose closed and put the cup to his lips. He had no choice but to open his mouth if he wanted to breathe. Some of the liquid dripped into his mouth. After a half hour, they could see the drug was taking effect.
His pupils dilated, his speech a bit slurred. They began questioning the knight who responded with one word. “Frog!”
The team looked puzzled. What did a frog have to do with the arc? They poked at the knight and asked again for the location of the arc on Oak Island.
“Wrong,” said the knight, “Frog Island.”
New excavations began immediately.
I hope that you enjoyed my story today! You too can join in on the Mondays Finish the Story challenge by clicking HERE!

Great storyline using the prompt Barbara 🙂
Thanks TN!
Ribbit, ribbit. 😉 🐸
🙂 Funny girl!
Ah wow!! good one…isle de grenouille!! very original!
🙂 Glad you enjoyed the story Oliana!
Great job. I love these short challenges, reading them and writing them. Does anyone do a continuing story each week? Yours could easily go that way. I loved it!
Yes, there is one fellow who started writing a serial from the inception of the MFtS challenge. Look on the list by clicking on the blue frog. Then look for John and Margaret.
Great story! You do like a little bit of humour don’t you. The ‘frog’ made me laugh…
Thank you Joycelin! Frog is the name of the island just east of Oak Island. 🙂
How lucky to have that for your story – you’re way too clever. 😀
🙂 Thank you J!
I wonder whether they’ll ever find it…? I loved the name of Frog Island as I read the story – I love it even more now I’ve learnt through the comments that it’s a real place! Good story, Barbs. 🙂
Thank you Louise. I had fun writing this story. I enjoyed your story too! 🙂
I love your interpretation Barb ~ As always unique and leaving a desire for more. This is open to extension ~ Oak and Frog Islands sound wonderful prompts in themselves ~ Thanks for your great weekly challenge. 🙂
Thank you John! I appreciate you and your ongoing story! Hugs to you and Margaret. ^..^
I’m wondering what their intentions with the arc are, too! Probably not good. Intriguing!
Some say that opening the Arc is the same as opening Pandora’s box.
Powerful stuff, that nightshade. I wonder what they’ll do with it if they find it?
They will open Pandora’s box.
“They were digging in the wrong place!” Great story!!! Love stories about the ark!!!!
Thanks!
Good use of the picture and the first sentence. I couldn’t come up with anything that ould be original. 🙂
Thanks Susan! Nightshade is a species with lots of things we use in our homes. Potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and peppers. Maybe that information helps?
I feel sorry for the prisoner! Poor man is forced to drink the poison. Hope he survived the ordeal. Good to know it is a real place.
I cannot say whether or not the knight survived for that is another story.
Yes, that’s the next chapter!
🙂
Well done! They’re still searching Oak Island, why not Frog Island too?
Thank you! They have been searching Oak Island for quite a long time.
So one wonders if they found what they were looking for….good tale Barb….
Thank you Michael. It was a fun story to write…
Thanks for always brightening my day with a story Barb!
I am glad my stories brighten your day Joanne. I hope that you are doing well my friend.
Aha! Well at least they’re getting somewhere. The Arc is a major deal. And here I was thinking he had hallucinations when he said Frog. Love the slow reveal in this one.
Frog Island is just east of Oak Island. There is an interesting area that that had me thinking….
Ah, nice. More on this story idea perhaps? I’d like to know if they find the Arc.
The legend goes that 6 will die looking for whatever it is that is buried on Oak Island. The count to date is 5. The Lagina brothers, and Craig Tester are the folks who are now financing another Oak Island search. They are working with a resident of the island, Dan Blankenship, who quit working to look for the treasures that Oak Island my be hiding. For more information on Oak Island, here is a link to an interview with Marty Lagina and Craig Tester. Interview with Lagina and Tester – Oak Island.
Is that the Frog Island located in Pasquotank County, North Carolina? Enquiring minds need to know.
No. It is just east of Oak Island in Nova Scotia.
If only they had understood what Frog meant earlier….Nice one.
Thanks Ansumani!
Lovely Barbara! Thanks again for running this wonderful weekly challenge. I’m having fun!
Thank you Graham! I am glad you are having fun with this. I met my goal! 🙂
I really like what you did with the prompt sentence. I had a hard time with it. Great story Barb!
Thanks Joy! You wrote a very good tale for having a hard time with it!
Thank you Barb! I appreciate your kind comment. 🙂
YW Joy!
Frog Island – great name.
A real place,; and just east of Oak Island.
And then all sorts of other intriguing chapters could follow.
Could be! 🙂
