I went junking today at the flea market. I was looking for something new to add to my old bottle collection.
Heading down the last row sat a woman. Her grey hair was like a birds nest, and in spite of the heat, she wore heavy shawls. She had old bottles. I picked up an old Coca-Cola bottle. I had to buy it. Twenty five cents was a bargain.
Back at home, I sat the bottle on the shelf with all the others. It was a lovely addition. The date on the bottle: December 25th, 1925. This was one of few Christmas Cokes ever made.

Thank you Rochelle for hosting Friday Fictioneers, and to G.L. MacMillan for the photo that inspired this story.
Thank you dear reader for stopping by today. Be well… ^..^
Dear Barb,
What a lovely find for her collection. Nice story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle. A bit of history is always fun to insert in a story.
Good story. I drink diet Coke all the time, but my empty cans aren’t worth much…just the aluminum they are made of. Good to know the history.
🙂 Thanks Susan!
I didn’t know that about the Christmas Coke… neither did the old woman. Very interesting, great story.
Based on history. Thanks!
Sounds like it’s worth more than 25 cents!
It would be!
A lovely snippet of life.
Thanks Louise!
Your stories always brighten and warm my day Barb! Thanks for you being you!
Right back at you Joanne!
An awesome find for sure. We keep digging up old bottles in our yard. House is over 100 years old. They used to bury the their garbage, keeps popping up! Makes me wonder about the huge garbage dumps where they bury an entire city’s garbage. One day it will find it’s way back to the surface too. Hmm.
Good write!
Thanks Yolanda. A friend was given his grandfather’s house in San Francisco, and he discovered a well under the house. He started to dig out the well, and found a pair of crystal salt and pepper shakers. He gave them to me. It was so cool.
Sounds like she picked up a true collectors item.
She did!
Christmas coke bottles were made from 1923 through 1937 and each had the 12-25-1923 patent date molded into the glass. 25 cents was a good buy.
It was a good buy!
Short and sweet. I can imagine the old woman, smelly and dirty but very happy to receive the money! Well done
Thanks Scrapydo!
Great story! Apparently the old woman didn’t value her bottles as much as you do. 🙂
Thanks Pat!
