We have been doing a lot of work on our house. We had the siding on the exterior replaced, and we had a room converted from an exterior room to an interior room. This room is the focus of today’s post. We had a number of issues with the contractor. One of which is that while the floor is level in the room the walls are not straight. We planned on wallpapering the entire room, and bought 6 rolls of wallpaper to do the job. Instead we could only do 3 of the walls.
My husband and I donned our wallpapering hats and dove in. Neither of us have done this before. Here is what the wallpaper looks like…
When we hung the first sheet, we noticed that the corner was not straight. Here is a shot of the first sheet after being hung. Notice the left edge. The wallpaper has a straight edge, but the wall is uneven…
Our fix for this so that it will not be noticeable is quarter moulding. We hung the second sheet. Here is a photo of my husband using a roller over the seam.
We advanced to the other side of the windows and realized we had to trim the paper at the corner. Pain in the butt because of matching the patterns…Here is the first wall completed.
On the next wall, we had to do a vertical cut so that we could match the pattern coming around the corner. This, another wall that is not straight. We finally finish the second wall.
We begin the last wall. The most difficult part of this were the little pieces we had to cut for over the opening into the living room.
One of the problems we encountered as we went along was that the edges refused to stay down. So we ended up using a wallpaper glue to keep the edges down.
We did a border that has the same leaf shape as in the paper….
We were finally finished. The next project is to hang the wainscoting that I painstakingly painted over a weeks time. I painted about 120 boards…It does finish the wall nicely. At this point we still need to put in the quarter moulding…
Do you need any wallpaper? I have 3 rolls left and 3 rolls of border trim. Oh, my husband and I, we have permanently retired our wallpapering hats! 🙂
Well, that is it for today! Thanks for dropping by and have a spectacular Saturday!
