I am taking part in Alastair Forbes’ weekly flash fiction challenge: Sunday Photo Fiction. Each week Al asks that we write a story with a beginning, middle and end using about 200 words. He also provides a photo prompt which we are to use for our stories. Here is mine for today.
Suzie had booked a trip on the Sea Cloud II for herself and her new husband, Jeremy. This was to be a honeymoon trip. The day after the wedding, they boarded and a steward led them to their cabin. The room was spacious for one on a small vessel like this. The ship set sail.
The crew gathered everyone together for a muster meeting. The crew took them through the safety drills on the ship in case of emergency. When it was finished, they headed back to their room to change for their first dinner on board.
Dressed to the nines, they headed to the dining room where the fare was touted as being some of the finest on the sea. They both agreed afterwards that it was indeed the best they had ever had on a cruise.
After dinner, they took a stroll around the ship. Stopping at the aft, they embraced tenderly. As they parted, Sue said, “I love you.” Shoving Jeremy hard, he fell backwards going overboard. She would report him missing in the morning.
Back in her room, she opened the bottle of champagne, raised her glass and said to herself, “To Jeremy, husband number 5.”
