I am taking part in Rochelle Wisoff-Fields writing challenge: Friday Fictioneers. This writing challenge dictates that I write a story that has a beginning, a middle and an end using 100 words or less. Today I take on this challenge, and for the sake of this story, I went over by one word…Ready for my story?
I was at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Jackson Boulevard in Chicago, where Route 66 begins. I wondered if this was a wise journey for me. The trip would be 2,448 miles. Could I do it? It would take quite a bit of time, but I was determined.
I have with me a tent, sleeping bag, minimal clothing, some toiletries, and snacks for on the road between stops. A team of people would be with me to monitor my progress and me.
I looked at everyone. “Ready?” I asked. There were nods of assent. I got my wheelchair in motion.
