I am taking part in Mondays Finish the Story, which is a flash fiction challenge that provides a photo prompt and the opening sentence to your story. The rules indicate that the story you come up with must be between 100-150 words, not including the opening line… Are you ready for my story?
The opening sentence for the story is: “Silently as the people watched, the black hawk helicopter lifted into the air.”
Now for my story…
“Silently as the people watched, the black hawk helicopter lifted into the air.” As it left, we found ourselves shocked by what had occurred.
It had been life as usual in the Sierra Foothills. The day was warm and still. We were working in the yard. It was around mid-day when we heard it. It was a low rumbling sound at first, and as it got louder, the air vibrated. It seemed to be getting closer to us.
Stopping, we both walked to the driveway to get a better look. Moving slowly overhead we saw a disk shaped object. It wobbled and headed in the direction of the airstrip. Quickly, my husband ran into the house grabbing the car keys. We got into the car and headed to the airport.
When we got there, we saw people had gathered there. The disk suddenly dropped to the ground. Silence surrounded us. Its door opened just as the black hawk arrived. A grey stepped out.

Have a magnificent Monday, and thank you for stopping by! Be well! ^..^
A good story Barb with continuous tension and a good twist at the end. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne
Thank you Suzanne!
Lovely work Babs ~ An unfinished saga certainly ~ Can’t wait ~ 🙂
We shall see what comes up with the upcoming photos! 🙂
I hope they get a warm welcome (and by “warm” I don’t mean a fiery death from the helicopter’s armaments!).
Since the UFO was wobbling, maybe he’s just landed for an oil change.
That might be the case! 🙂 Thank you for your comment!
AND?????…..what happened Barb? Great ending. The curse of word limits..lol…. Well done indeed.
Thank you! What happened next? Maybe it will come up in another Mondays challenge! 🙂
I think you have started something here Barb.
There are a couple of folks that are carrying on a story with each photo being a chapter….Not sure what photo will end up in the next challenge. I choose photos that grab me and then take my time with the opening sentence…I am having such fun with this! And, to think the idea of doing this blog came to me in a dream! Divine inspiration! :
Well you have created a great challenge. I receive it on Tuesday of course as I am a day in front of you so I look for it during my Tuesday breakfast. The divine can work in mysterious ways.
It sure can! Thanks again for participating! 🙂 Be well! ^..^
And only afterwards we understood that they came in peace… great with aliens
Thank you!
I can only assume that the Men In Black were in the helicopter.
You know what they say about the word “assume.” Things are never as they seem to be! 🙂
