I am taking part in Mondays Finish the Story, which is a challenge that provides a photo prompt and the opening sentence to your story. The rules indicate that the story you come up with must be between 100-150 words….Ready?
“Donning her fins and snorkel, she headed out into the deep water.” She carried her special underwater camera. Her last project was in Loch Ness. Using infrared, she captured a photo of Nessie. She was optimistic that in the coastal waters of San Diego she would capture her next!
The chop on the water was actually calm; the water clear. Her target sometimes would reportedly be deep, and sometimes close to the surface. It made an unusual sound, kind of a deep “thrum.”
Having swum a good distance away from the boat, she let herself sink and listen. Pulling out a special underwater sonar device set specifically for this sound, she turned it on. It was heading towards her!
The sound came closer. With the camera ready, she could finally see it coming her way. Raising her camera, she smiled and so did Mr. Limpet, Ladyfish, and Crusty.
They posed and she took the historic shot! Silently, she thanked George Stickle!

I sincerely hope that you enjoyed today’s story! This story is based upon characters from the 1964 movie starring Don Knotts, Carole Cook and Jack Weston.
I laugh because I met Don Knotts back in the mid-1970’s. It was a meeting I am sure that I will never forget, and he probably didn’t either. On being introduced to this talented man, who was known for his parts in The Andy Griffith Show, and, at the time, the upcoming Three’s Company, I stammered! He graciously shook my hand and I said, “I loved you in the Incredible Mr. Limpet.” His face seemed to freeze, he dropped my hand and walked away. I could have kicked myself! There you have it!
Have a wonderful Monday! Thanks for dropping in and be well! ^..^
Barbara, Really cute and well-written story. That was a darling movie. My parents used to have a neighbor who said he knew Don Knotts at the University of West Virginia. He was pretty proud of it. I guess it was a kind of claim to fame. Well done. 🙂 — Susan
Thank you Suzanne! I enjoyed his acting very much! Have a good weekend! – B
Interesting take on the prompt. Well done!
Thank you Caerlynn!
Great take on this prompt Barb, and you got me in well and truly.
Didn’t I tell you that this week’s challenge was all wet? 🙂 I am glad that you enjoyed my story! Be well! ^..^
Cute short story, and reminder of the movie from (already) 50 years ago.
I still love the movie!
Nice of them to strike a pose! It doesn’t sound like they get many photo ops.
Wasn’t it though? I don’t think that they dod! 🙂
