I moved into my 1890’s Victorian house nine months ago and began restoration. Shortly after I started the work, strange things started happening.
The first thing I experienced was hearing the sound footsteps on the second floor. When I looked around, I realized no one was there. Then one day in the living room, I discovered that one of the wing chairs mysteriously moved next to the fireplace. I could smell cigar smoke. I do not smoke cigars, nor did I move the chair.
One night, sitting in the patio room playing my guitar, I felt my arms grabbed from behind. As I could see all doors in the room, I realized that I had not seen anyone come in. Looking behind me, I saw one of the houseplants swaying for no apparent reason. Talk about being creeped out!
With the restoration done, by now it was early fall, I decided to have a dinner party. One of the dishes I was going to make was a fresh pumpkin cauliflower soup. As I walked into the kitchen to start cooking, there was the pumpkin, carved and glowing. I had not carved the pumpkin.
It turned towards me smiling and winked.

Thank you to Alastair Forbes for hosting Sunday Photo Fiction, and for the inspiring photo to go along with this challenge!
And, thank you dear reader for taking the time to drop on by to visit today! May you have one heck of an amazing Sunday! Be well! ^..^
Cleverly done.
Thank you!
ha! last year at the oldest hacienda in ecuador, the sound of ‘boots’ walking across my second-floor room awakened me… i was the only one sleeping upstairs, and the roof was directly overhead… there is no explanation that works except ‘a ghost.’…
he didn’t leave a jack o’lantern! drats!
Drats! Think of what could have happened if he did!
i’ve also been ‘shaken’ awake, similar to your story below.. i often wonder what ‘that’s’ all about…
We have a ghost cat here at the house. Recently, when quarantined, I saw this cat dash from one side of the room to the other. That night I felt something playing with my hair, and then it was as if someone sat on the bed right near my head, which was up near the wall! Creepy!
Ah…That’s brilliant! Really loved it! π

It was fun to write! Thanks V!
No worries…It was a fab read!!!
π
Methinks I would have fled from that house a long time ago!
The grabbing of the arms actually happened to me at a place I lived in San Diego. And, the plant was moving too!
It’s either a very useful pumpkin to have carved itself, or it’s evil and malevolent. Or it’s evil, malevolent, and useful. In any case, I rather enjoyed reading about it’s wicked antics!
It’s evil, malevolent and not very useful! π
Then what happened?
You have to wait until next halloween to find out! π
A perfect short story for Halloween, and an ending line to make one think.
π Thanks PJ!
the winking part was best! did it bite after that?
That is up to you to decide! π
π smart girl!
π
Nice and spooky with a freaky ending π
Why thank you Al! π
π
How did you do that? π
