“Do you remember that old saying, ‘X marks the spot?” Two shuttles were just approaching the mothership having completed their mission. The “X” was prominent in the sky below them. The Zarcathians had been watching this planet for some time now.
What drew their attention to this once blue planet were the weapons of mass destruction. The inhabitants were in a state of unrest, countries warring against other countries. They did not need these weapons as they were destroying the planet already.
For years, the Zarcathians monitored the devastation on this planet. They watched the depletion of the ozone layer, destruction of forestlands, and pollution of the once blue waters that surrounded the planet.
What bothered the Zarcathians the most was that it appeared the inhabitants were planning on heading out into space for colonization. They could not let this happen.
The order was given, and where X marked the spot, the photon torpedo made its descent.

I hope that you liked my bit of flash fiction! Thank you for taking the time to stop by today for a bit! Have a great Monday and be well! ^..^
Zarcathians, Vogons, they’re all the same. They want to destroy our planet and build a highway…or a parking lot. LOL I love this Barb, very clever π
Thank you Lyn!
Great story Barbara, reminded me of the Vogon spaceship in Hitch hikers guide to the Galaxy where they come to destroy earth in order to build a highway through space. This was a challenging prompt today.
I forgot about the Vogons! I maybe should have used them in the story! It was a challenging prompt…I hope that more decide to join in…Maybe I need to be a little lighter next week….Your thoughts?
From my perspective i like the prompts to be challenging. I say that as so often i see prompts which don’t challenge. So i like this prompt for by giving me the first line it tends to shape where i can go with the image that in itself is a challenge. So keep up the good prompts Barbara, i hope to join in each week.
I love it! Doing this challenge came to me in a dream one night. I did not see anyone doing anything like this and I like to be different! Also, please call me Barb… π Thank you again, and this next week will be another challenge! ^..^
Look forward to it Barb, call me Michael.
I will call you Michael! Be well!
Scottland’s flag π Cheers, AP
π I have relatives there! How about joining the challenge? π
Lucky you π
Phew, I am not a great writer unfortunately π π¦
Give it a try! Unless you try you will never know! π
Practice makes perfect! π
Seems you have captured the chemtrails.
Good for the Zarcathians as our history shows that we will always have war, will always pilfer the environment, and in general humans are not the best stewards of the planet. But then – maybe their photon bomb endows intelligence to humans to see the error of their ways? One can only hope.
Thank you for the comment PJ! Glad you enjoyed my bit of flash!
