It was the strangest thing really. She could not explain it and yet she just had to solve the mystery. She somehow knew that it had to do with the statuary dragon that she recently purchased and put into her vegetable garden.
Ground squirrels, moles, voles and gophers had ravaged her garden. Shortly after adding the dragon to her garden, she began to notice a change. The critters were gone and her plants began to flourish.
She also noticed that the location of the dragon changed on a daily basis. One day it was near the tomatoes, and the next it was over by the squash. She was puzzled.
Determined to solve the mystery she bought security cameras which she attached to the house. All the cameras focused on the garden. Satisfied that she had good coverage, she was certain she would solve what was happening in her garden.
The day following the set up of the camera system, she sat down to review the footage captured of her garden the night before. She was amazed at what she discovered.
You see, at night, the dragon came to life, which solved the third mystery: Why her vegetables were slightly charred.

Thank you very much Pat for liking my story!
Hi Barb, this is such a wonderfully creative take on the photo. And I love the setting (your garden). Way to go, a great write! Hope you’re doing well dearest friend! 🙂 xo
Thank you Penny! I have a lot of catching up to do with your site! Been away for a bit and then evacuated…which made time away longer…I am doing well and I hope that you are too! Hugs! ^..^ xoxo
Hugs, and happy to hear from you dearest friend! xoxo
Hugs right back to you Penny! ^..^
Fun story. But it would have been excellent if you hadn’t told us that, “at night, the dragon came to life”. Worded differently we could have deduced that. Remember “show, not tell”.
I will try to remember show not tell! Thank you again for your comments!
Innovative take on the prompt. Wonderful read.
Thank you! I am glad that you enjoyed my bit of flash! 🙂
That wouldn’t be so bad if she put the dragon near the red peppers.
She didn’t have to…it moved itself to the peppers! 🙂
Hahaha. Good story! Seems she found the perfect garden guardian. Maybe you should get one for your garden.
Thank you! Would love one like this if only it worked! 🙂
Nicely done! Probably best to keep this dragon outdoors… 😃
Thank you Steve! I think it is best to keep this fellow outside too!
OK – where can I get a couple of these? Good story.
Not sure where she bought it! Thank you!
Char-ming. Great story, I like it.
I did try to give this story a bit of sizzle!
Well it really cut the mustard
