Every morning I have been checking on the two praying mantis in the yard to see if the praying mantis that I wrote about earlier in the week are still there. Yesterday I discovered the smaller of the two was no longer there. What I found instead was a large brown one! I got some really neat photos of this big guy and wanted to share what this bad boy looks like! Be sure to click on the photos to enlarge them so that you can really see the detail of this beautiful, beneficial insect! Ready?
One final shot…
Pretty amazing insect, isn’t it?
Enjoy your Saturday! Thank you for taking the time to drop on by! Be well! ^..^
Oh my goodness!
Oh my indeed Kathy!
Wow – when the photos are enlarged you can see so much detail. Luckily these fellows aren’t the size of the enlarged versions. Nice pics!
Good that they are not otherwise they would take over the world! 🙂
Have you looked to see what Praying Manthis means, Babs??? (smile) (((HUGS))) Amy
From WhatsYourSign.com it means: “The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. Usually the mantis makes an appearance when we’ve flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small voice within us because of the external din we’ve created. After observing this creature for any length of time you can see why the symbolism of the praying mantis deals with stillness and patience. The mantis takes her time, and lives her life at her own silent pace.” 🙂
Well, I would say that message could be applied to many of us. This message struck HOME with me. That much I will say. (((HUGS))) Amy
Hugs right back to you Amy! xoxo
Wow, he’s really something! Great photos of a very interesting critter. Thanks!
I thought this one was a beauty in brown! 🙂 Glad that you enjoyed my photos! Hugs!
Fantastic close up shots.
Why thank you!
It is a pretty amazing insect. Robert points out little old people who drive like a praying mantis. Funny, that’s what I usually think of…lol. 😀
It is amazing! Thank you for the comment Veronica! Now I will have the picture in my head of the praying mantis when I see old people driving! 🙂
These are amazing captures, Barbara! Wow!
Thank you Lynda! I am glad that you enjoyed these!
Caught one of my own today and she is very pregnant! Though my shots are nowhere near as spectacular as yours.
Wow! Preggers! How can you tell?
FAT! Her abdomen looks like it is splitting on the sides. (It isn’t, it is just inflated and brown.) 🙂
To determine the sex of the mantis one looks at the number of segments on the abdomen and the length of the wings. This is actually a male. The green one is a female and she is full of eggs!
They’re very interesting, but I’m so thankful they’re not human size.
🙂 Wouldn’t that be something to see these as big as us! That would make them definitely alien creatures! 🙂
