She sat at her desk, quill pen in hand. She had a story to tell. She had already written notes laying out the story. She had her cast of characters, built around folks that she knew, and would disguise them well enough so as they were not recognizable.
She grabbed a clean sheet of paper, and slowly dipping her quill pen in the inkwell, she began to write.
“It is truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

Thank you goes out to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for hosting Friday Fictioneers and to Jon Wayne Fields for the photo that inspired this story!
Sometimes I have to really sit and think about what words I will put to a photo. Today this story just fell right onto the page! I love Jane Austen, and I love the story “Pride and Prejudice!” A must read for anyone! I could just imagine her sitting at a desk like this! How about you?
Chemo went without a hitch yesterday! Hoping that today will be the final of all needed treatments! ๐
Thank you for stopping by today! Have a terrific Thursday! Be well! ^..^
Barb, This is a lovely historical fiction story. It’s probably about how it happened. I could also see her sitting there writing. Well written. ๐ —Susan
Thank you Susan! I am glad that you enjoyed it! ๐
I loved how she had all her characters and the story-line etched out.
Writers do that don’t they? It would make sense! Thank you Uma for your comment! ๐
As good a wife as money can buy!
Glad your chemo went well.
Indeed! Thank you Dawn!
WAIT! Have fun first, sow your wild oats, then settle down. Hopefully there’s enough money left to pay off a mortgage! Good job! Nan ๐
Thank you Nan!
I love how she had everything ready! Then off she went….
Why thank you Alicia! She did a good job, didn’t she?
Dear Barb,
Atmospheric. You put me in the moment.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Ooo! Lovely, and thank you Rochelle!
I love it when writers like you and Rochelle work history into your posts. Of course, I write from history too. Just about people only I know. ๐
Thank you! I do like to add a bit of history if I can. This story just jumped out of me! ๐
Lovely. Probably just as it happened. But I think you should really delete the last line – if your reader doesn’t get the quotation, they are really not worthy of you. Plus it’s clumsy in the context of the rest of the piece. (Sorry.)
Will make that change! Thank you!
Done! ๐
Great take. It truly reflects the prompt.
Thank you YarnSpinnerr!
Nice story to go with the photo, Barb. “Pride and Prejudice” is one of the best reads of all time.
I loved that story! Loved Emma too!
Hoping for the best for you, Barb.
Not a bad day. Although someone was picked up by emergency responders. They had to run my drip slower because it caused burning in my arm. Hoping this was the last. Future tests will determine if it is! Hugs to you A! ^..^
Yes, I can! That fits wonderfully.
Thank you Justina!
You’re welcome.
