Visiting a beach just south of San Francisco, Dawn came across this unusual sight. She had to photograph it.
“How did it get there?” she wondered. So she did some research.
Just south of the coastal town of Pacifica, along Highway 1, is a region known as Devil’s Slide. Dawn discovered that in 1976, during a severe winter storm, the promontory that this building sat on, snapped and fell.
Luck had it that it landed right side up! The name of the building, a tavern, was what was prophetic. It was known as “Devil’s Landing!”

🙂 Thanks Rochelle!
G’day! GREAT photo Barb! Always enjoy learning something new!
Cheers! Joanne
Clever story! It may have been a “Devil’s landing,” but if there were any occupants at the time, do you think they may have had a guardian Angel watching over them?
Who knows? It is fiction after all!
That’s a great story! I nearly killed myself at Devil’s Slide – in one of my past lives as a hippie in San Francisco. I got a job delivering donuts at 4:00 am. It was my first job and only my last. I had to drive the donut truck down Highway 1, which at 4:00 am is obliterated by fog, I nearly ran into a traffic accident and braked so hard I spun the truck into the guardrail. I only survived because they were doing the interminable construction works there and a pile of gravel saved my life. Needless to say, I quit my job that very day. Also, the donuts were every where!
Wow – such a story Lindaura! Glad that you survived such an ordeal! Thank you for the comment! ^..^
What a stroke of luck. They won’t have to change the name now even though they’ve moved locations! 😀
Not many patrons at their door…at least that we can see!
Oh the signs Devil has left….Devil’s landing and Devil’s slide is quite fascinating 🙂
Just a devilish piece of fiction!
Luckily in your story the tavern landed upright – guess the patrons thought it was only an earthquake.
The only thing I ever knew that went over the side of Devil’s Slide were cars and trucks, however (and I know it’s fiction) if a building was positioned there it would have gone over as well – sooner or later.
