When we visited Ark 2000, we made a stop at two of the enclosures that house the Lions. We were able to see one lioness and two sleeping males. They only have a few of these magnificent creatures and I was happy to get the shots that I did. It was difficult to get great shots due to the sun reflecting off the fencing (which you will really see when I feature the bears!), however, I was able to get these to share with you today!
There are two male lions at Ark 2000. These are Bambek and Simba. These lions are from Bolivia and arrived at Ark 2000 last May. These lions, before coming here to Ark 2000, had been living in metal boxes for most of their lives, and when they arrived at this location it was the first time that they ever had grass under their feet, could give themselves a good scratch against a tree, and enjoy the pleasure of rolling around in the dirt!
They love to sleep…This is how we found Bambek and Simba when we got there!

Meet Sheba. She was born in 1993 at a breeding facility and sold to a man in Detroit, Michigan, where she and her brother lived in his house. He became difficult to handle and was euthanized. Sheba was finally surrendered to the Michigan Humane Society, who contacted the PAWS to see if they could take her…She is a beauty and very playful too!
She really got into the pumpkins when we were there and she touched our hearts just watching her!
Like the tiger you saw yesterday, something distracts her and catches her attention!
Animals like these are not meant to be house pets living in our homes. They are not meant to live in cages. It is a sad commentary on humans that we do this to magnificent creatures such as these featured. This is one of the reasons we need to support groups like PAWS, who have opened their hearts and have found a way to rescue these creatures. Please check out their webpage and donate if you can!
Thank you for stopping by today, and stay tuned for the Bears! Have a wonderful Wednesday!
G’day beautiful photos and a happy ending for one happy lion too!
Your photos Barb always brighten my day, TRUE!
Cheers! Joanne
love these pics Barb
Thank you! ^..^ 🙂 B
Beautiful post and yes I agree about the cages. It is so sad! Did you ever watch the movie ” We bought a zoo” with Matt Damon? You should!
Thank you! I loved that movie, and it had me crying, just like I was crying this morning when I was writing this post. I wish people would be more kind and sensitive. We are an arrogant species believing that we are the better animal on this planet, when most of the problems on this planet are caused by us!
It is so true. I stopped going to the Philadelphia Zoo until they shipped off the elephants to a much bigger place. It was gross! They were chained too. This was maybe 20 years ago. Sigh. I am so glad you saw the movie. One of my all time favorites!
It was a wonderful movie and that would be one zoo I would want to go to…
Can you imagine owning it? I could !!
Me too!
Groups, such as PAWS, need all the assistance they can receive. I donated – How about you? (Besides – your donation can be tax deductible – so you benefit in two ways!)
Even with the fencing your photos are great. If you simply look at and then into their faces and eyes you’ll see their intelligence. Such gorgeous animals.
Thanks for helping make people more aware of organizations such as PAWS.
I was actually looking at their wish list and will be donating from that list. I want to be one of the adoptive parents to Nicolas the elephant, who truly grabbed my heart. You saw his photo in the teaser post. If I could help them all I would. Too bad I wasn’t born a millionaire instead of beautiful! Then I would have all the money that I would love to give this group! Thanks PJ for your support of PAWS and for your comment!
