The Koi followed the woman in the orange dress who wandered around a Koi pond at the San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden.
She stopped noticing that the Koi followed her as she walked along the pond. When she reached the little bridge there had to be at least thirty. They looked up at her.
A man joined her on the bridge. He was carrying an orange bucket. He reached into the bucket and flung out a fistful of food.
Looking at him she now knew why the fish were following her: Her dress was the same color as his jumpsuit!

The powers of observation are not wasted upon a fish. Yet, they must also learn to discern. Very nice!
Many thanks for the comment Cherry!
I love animal behavior stories!
🙂
Gazing down at the koi pond from the upper level rail at the mall, I noticed the koi swarming en mass near the edge of the pond. Coming into view was the caretaker with a bucket to feed them. Suddenly a splashing, thrashing, colorful frenzy of feeding. Thank you for taking me back to that serendipitous moment with your story.
Thank you again for your comment Roy!
Dear Barbara,
I think they recognized a kindred spirit. Koi are color blind. (just guessing there. Don’t panic.) Good story.
Aloha
Thank you!
Dear Barbara,
Orange you glad you wrote this? Very nicely done with brightly colored imagery.

What a fashion faux pa! I thought the story ending would reveal the koi followed her as he outfit made her look like a giant Koi Kween………ha.
