Fall has been slow in coming in. Last week we had temps back in the mid-80’s. This week will be bringing in our first rain of the season. This entails us clearing our back deck of our summer outdoor accoutremont! The storm, according to the National Weather Service indicates that this storm is dropping down from Alaska which brings with it a “Winter Storm Warning.” That means cold air and wind, along with the rain.
I managed to clear the entire deck with the exception of the deck umbrellas. They are cumbersome so I wanted my husband to help. I also noticed droppings on the deck under one of the umbrellas which means there is a bat face! We waited until dusk started to come upon us before tackling the umbrellas. And as I suspected we found the little cutie pie!
In the umbrella that is in the forefront of the above photo, here is what we found…These little cuties will be moving to warmer weather. We have noticed that the hummingbirds have disappeared, so the bats will be right behind them! What leaves your area as winter approaches?

Definitely a Kodak moment that did not fall into the category ‘missed’! Natures critters are fascinating:>)
Ah I love bats, we have a little one that flies around the garden in the summer, obviously catching all the insects. They don’t depart in the winter around here, just find somewhere cosy and hibernate until the warmer weather arrives again. The swallows that we had over the summer have flown away to a warmer climate, will see them back in spring.
Nice that you waited till dusk. As another response indicated- bats and disease. But they are also beneficials in nature. Good pics, like the close up of those little toes.
Love the toes too!
Now when I see bats I think of disease, so many emerging infectious diseases seem to have a bat connection.
