We took a road trip to visit some other locations here in the Sierra Foothills, and I wanted to share more of the foothills with you. Stay tuned as this will be a series of articles!
Our first stop was in the town of Jackson, population 4,500. All along the foothills towns popped up as gold was found. The town of Jackson was named after Alden Jackson and was founded in 1848. The Kennedy Mine was located here and was the deepest gold mine in North America. The mine is not open to visitors.
So let us take a quick look at Jackson:
We headed out of Jackson and made our way south. Along Highway 49 there are old road cutoffs and we chose to do this as we got to see more of the countryside. This took us to the small town of San Andreas, and Mokelume. Stay tuned as I will be featuring other sites here in the Sierra Foothills!

Great shots of a historic California. All these small towns popped up because of gold, and all are along California State Highway 49. If other readers have the opportunity they should drive this highway. Thanks for the share.
Very nice. Ive visited that area a few times. I never tire of seeing it. Nice post!
Thank you for the compliment Ross, and for the comment!
