Beautiful, black and totally hairy! This is the time of year when the tarantulas march. Popular belief is that this is a migration. In actuality is the male tarantula seeking the company a beautiful hairy female. And, guess what I spotted in my yard? You got it!
The females live in burrows in the ground, and can be seen as a whole in the ground with webbing around the opening. If the female is not happy with the male that shows up, she will kill and eat the male. But she might just do that with the one she decides to bed down with! The males only live a few years and the females can live for up to 20 years!
If you live where these beauties march, keep your eyes peeled! This march will continue through November in some areas!
Happy Friday!

I wish I had the hummingbirds but you can definitely keep these, I freak at the tiny house spiders we get 🙂
No wonder the males only average 5 years after being dinner. Great close up photos.
Absolutely beautiful – we don’t have anything this exotic in England!
Forget the wine. There could be a bunch of them in the case!
Have a great weekend,
Conor
🙂
They can be seen marching across the road too!
