When we moved into our house, we had an area between the driveway and the house that was a huge weed patch. Located within the weed patch is our french drain. This being the case we had to get inventive with the area. Planting was out of the question because of the drain. A water feature too was not an option. So what did we do?
My husband, having an avid interest in trains. Having a number of pieces for the village for the trains to travel through, he suggested that we use the houses and create a little village in this area of our garden. And this is what we did! We brought in some river rock, created a “lake” using crushed blue rubber, and set the buildings around the “lake.”
Here are photos of our village!
We have a bit of repair work to do, which we will do over the winter. I hope that you enjoyed our little village!

Awesome! People can get really creative with their gardens. You certainly is one of the runner as the most creative one.
Why thank you! We do have fun in our yard!
Love it! It’s a happy looking area!
Hi Barb,
We get stuff like this in our garden all the time. Thrown over the wall by the young ‘uns next door.
Best,
Conor
Very clever use of the model buildings.
This is a good way to utilize the space and create interest, especially when the little ones drop by. I did enjoy it! Thank you for sharing, Barbara!
Thank you for the comment Liz! I hope that you are doing well!
