It took months to get to today. There was the hard work of planting seeds in the trays and watering and watching them sprout. Then it took a number of days to do the back breaking work of building the lasagne garden and getting it planted. Then more watering and playing the waiting game! Today I finally was able to harvest the “fruits” of my labor as my first vegetables were ready!
In this photo you see the wax beans, broccoli and just a couple of the early raspberries that survived the birds!
I got the veges together for steaming.
These gems were being paired with these gems!
And this gem!
When all was cooked and served up
we enjoyed the tremendous flavors of the vegetables from our garden!

Please, oh please bring me some food. My mouth waters, my stomach growls, my eyes can taste the flavors.
Broccoli! You’re brave to try growing it. I haven’t had much success with cold weather crops. I would love to grow artichokes since they’ve gotten so expensive in the stores. I wonder if that would be possible!
We have hot summers here and I have one broccoli plant that is 3 years old and still puts out. The other 3 are new last fall. They seem to be happy. Artichokes? Depends where you live. Let me know and I will let you know if you can grow them where you are!
Great post! Thank you so much!
Looks good Barb
Congrats! No matter how long one has been gardening, there’s always something special about that first harvest!!
Thanks! First harvest makes me look forward to the rest of the season!
What a feast! Z
Farm Fresh! Much better than canned or frozen. Tuna looks good too.
Wel done Barb. I bet it tasted all te better for having been ‘home grown’.
Best,
Conor
Truly amazing flavors Conor! Thanks for stopping by!
Food you grow yourself just tastes twice as good. It even tastes better than homegrown food your neighbor might give you. So happy for you. I used to know the pleasure of growing our own food years ago.
Congrats! Looks great and glad the birds didn’t get all of your berries!
