I was amazed driving through the desert on our short road trip of how green everything is! The recent monsoonal flow, while having a negative effect in Colorado, did wonders for the desert in Nevada! So today I wanted to share with you some of the many different plants we saw, some even in bloom! Shall we?
This plant was everywhere with its beautiful trumpet like flower in a total contrast of the white against the deep dark green of the foliage. It’s name: Datura.
In areas there were no trees and in others we saw the strange twisted Joshua trees.
Masses of yellow flowering shrubs were everywhere!
I only saw one of these, a Pinion Pine, and it was twisted and gnarly!
At the Red Rock BLM facility I spied something red…
There was this other strange looking cactus, whose name as it turns out, is called the “Jumping Cactus.” Why? Because the cactus spines will grab hold of something, clothing, or fur, break off and then will eventually drop off or be pulled off. Where it falls is where that piece will root. This is how it “jumps” from place to place!
Then there is the standard paddle cactus that one sees all over the deserts here in the U.S.
Out in the middle of nowhere, there was this shrub that was adorned with the most lovely flower….
One last shot of the desert and the greenery…
I hope that you enjoyed what I discovered in the desert! Please do stop by again, and thank you for visiting today! Have a magnificent Monday!
